POLICY • ECONOMICS • SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS
Climate change is increasing the intensity and frequency of extreme events like flooding and droughts, which is increasing the threat to farmers’ livelihoods around the globe.
Ana María leads the Transforming Food Systems under a Changing Climate initiative, which aims to realize a transformation in food systems by mobilizing knowledge and catalyzing action. Her work informs policy decisions related to the transformation of food systems focusing on the key actions that are needed to meet the targets for climate adaptation and mitigation targets, while not undermining other goals. Before joining CIAT, Ana María worked with the Colombian government to develop its climate change policy, climate research agenda and low-carbon growth strategies. Ana María holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles.
The Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people’s lives. Alliance solutions address the global crises of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.
The Alliance is part of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future.
