STEVEN DEAN PRAGER
STRATEGIC FORESIGHT • CLIMATE SERVICES • SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS
“We need to simultaneously focus our energy on integration AND disruption. It seems counterintuitive, but in the current climate crises we need to go all–in on solutions we know can work while, at the very same time, question our assumptions at every step and ask ourselves, is there a better way?”
A geographer by training, Steve leads strategic foresight activities for CIAT, with an emphasis on understanding the impacts of climate change on the agricultural economy and the role of climate as a driver in food system (un)sustainability. He also co-leads a global team supporting the CGIAR Foresight initiative. In addition to foresight, his research leadership includes activities in the development and delivery of climate services and agroclimatic forecasts, approaches to forecast-based finance, and provision of environmental decision support systems.
